Our Story.
Connecting people, place, craft, and conservation through storytelling, traceability, and authentic African craftsmanship.
A movement, not a brand.
Kulani Collective was founded in 2022 in Hoedspruit, South Africa, with a vision to create more connected, ethical, and story-led pathways for African artisans and makers.
What began as a small community-focused initiative has grown into a collaborative platform supporting artisans, crafters, makers, and rural micro-enterprises across Southern Africa.
Today, Kulani works across multiple areas — including artisan development, traceability systems, market access, mentorship, storytelling, retail platforms, training programmes, leather micro-tanneries, and collaborative conservation-linked projects.
People deserve to be seen. The stories behind handmade work matter. And craft has the power to create meaningful, dignified livelihoods when supported ethically and intentionally.
Built alongside, not above.
01 Mentorship and skills development
02 Product refinement and design support
Five principles that guide every decision, partnership, and product.
Every product carries a human story. We believe those stories deserve visibility, honesty, and connection.

We believe people should know where products come from, who made them, and how they were created.

The Orpen Hub.
The shop brings together handcrafted products, artisan collaborations, conservation-linked storytelling, and traceable African craftsmanship — creating a platform where tourists, lodges, designers, and local visitors can connect directly with the people and stories behind the work.
The Art House
The space regularly hosts exhibitions, artisan showcases, creative gatherings, workshops, markets, and collaborative events that connect people more deeply to the stories, processes, and people behind the work.
collaboration.
Kulani exists because of partnerships — between artisans, communities, conservation organisations, creatives, mentors, retailers, and supporters who believe in more connected and ethical ways of creating.
